FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS featuring Le'Andria Johnson

Sunday, Oct 27, 2019   4:15 PM
Adrienne Arsht Center -- Miami, Florida Le’Andria Johnson was introduced to the world and captured our hearts after competing in and winning season three of BET’s Sunday Best competition. During her audition, she won the judges over with her rendition of “This Is the Day the Lord Hath Made,” and was selected to compete, quickly rising to the top pick of voters and judges alike. According to Kirk Franklin, Le’Andria Johnson “is a shining example of God’s grace.”

Her first album, The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson (Music World Entertainment Gospel, 2011) debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Gospel Album charts, and won a GRAMMY Award, making her the first Sunday Best contestant to receive a GRAMMY.

Originally from Palatka, FL, she grew up singing in her father’s church, HQ Ministries. She is not only a self-taught singer, and musician, but a producer, and songwriter. She has been vocal about her life’s struggles, including divorce, raising children as a single mother, and dealing with alcoholism and depression. She is living testimony that all things are possible through Christ.

Miami Mass Choir, the resident choir of the Arsht Center’s Free Gospel Sundays series, has a celebrated recording history which goes back to the release of their first album in 1997. The album featured the breakout song, ‘What God Has For Me, It is For Me,” and climbed to number 25 on Billboard's Top Selling Gospel Albums Chart, earning several awards including the Stellar Award for Choir of the Year.

Miami Mass Choir has been blessed to work with many legendary gospel artists including Dorothy Norwood for which they recorded the album Ole Rickety Bridge in 1999. This album was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album.

In 2004, members of the Miami Mass Choir joined Grammy award winner and super producer Kanye West onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards for an astounding performance of his hit “Jesus Walks.”
