Q&A: Art + Soul Fifth Anniversary Celebration of the PAMM Fund for African American Art

What is the PAMM Fund for African American Art?
The PAMM Fund for African American Art was established in 2013 with a $1 million donation, funded equally by Jorge M. Pérez and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, for the purchase of contemporary art by African American artists for the museum’s permanent collection. Through the Fund, the museum first acquired works by Al Loving, Faith Ringgold, and Xaviera Simmons. These works joined other significant PAMM collection objects by artists such as Leonardo Drew, Sam Gilliam, Rashid Johnson, Lorna Simpson, James Van Der Zee, Carrie Mae Weems, Kehinde Wiley, and Purvis Young. At the last Annual Reception for the PAMM Fund for African American Art, the museum acquired works by Kevin Beasley, Martine Syms, Juana Valdes, Theaster Gates, and Sam Gilliam.

What are the PAMM Ambassadors for African American Art?
The PAMM Ambassadors for African American Art support the fund with various levels of membership: Advocate ($250); Steward ($1,000); and Guardian ($2,500). Membership allows PAMM to acquire and exhibit major works by African American artists and present related programming for the enjoyment of generations to come.

What is Art + Soul?
Art + Soul is the Fifth Anniversary Celebration of the PAMM Fund for African American Art. It takes place on February 17, 2018 from 7pm-midnight. This celebration will offer a special three-part evening from which to choose: The Dinner, The Reveal, and The Celebration.

What is the difference between the three options?
The Dinner | Cocktails 7pm, dinner 8pm: The night will begin with an intimate cocktail hour and seated dinner in Paresky Hall. Guests of the Dinner will also have access to the Reveal and Celebration. Tickets: $1,000 per person.

The Reveal | 9-10pm: The evening will continue with a reveal of the fund’s most recent acquisition purchase in the presence of special invited guests and with remarks by Franklin Sirmans. Guests will also enjoy entertainment, champagne, and dessert. Guests of the Reveal will also have access to the Celebration. Tickets: $500 for nonmembers (includes Ambassador membership) and $250 for Ambassador members.

The Celebration | 9pm-midnight: The festivities continue under the stars on the East Portico with cocktails, canapés and dancing. Tickets: $50 (limited availability) and $100 per person.

Why is the pricing different from past years?
This event is a fundraiser for the PAMM Fund for African American Art. By creating a three-part evening, we are able to make the evening accessible and inclusive, while still support the sustainability of the event for the future. All funds raised during the evening help support the fund for the continued acquisition of art by African American artists.

Can I donate to the fund without attending the event?
Donations are always welcome to support the PAMM Fund for African American Art. Visit pamm.org/artfund to learn more.
