DIRECTIONS
The YCEP will consist of two components that include creative ‘Acts of Empowerment’ for area youth to express themselves through dance and art. The YCEP Dance Project will teach the elements of West African and hip-hop dance as vehicles for youth to also learn about physical health and wellness, nutrition, and proper hygiene. The YCEP Dance Project will culminate with a choreographed performance at the Spady Living Heritage Festival in February 2017. In the art component of YCEP, Fort Lauderdale-based visual artist Gary Moore (garylmoore.com) will lead youth through the development of an original art piece. Each youth will complete an art project that will be on display in Delray Beach and will be part of Moore’s Art Basel display in December. Other program components include engaging youth in learning healthy cooking, soap-making, cultural history activities, poetry, textile art, Kemetic yoga, and field trips.
